Jan. 2 - Snowy weather takes its grip on various parts of the U.S., threatening travelers and claiming lives. Gavino Garay reports.

A snow storm is taking its hold on parts of the U.S. It's the third straight day of snow in Chicago. As much as a foot of snow has fallen there, causing hundreds of flight cancellations. In Indiana, one person was killed in a traffic incident involving a tour bus and pickup truck. And in Wisconsin, La Crosse police are trying to find out how car drove onto the ice-covered Mississippi River and fell through. Sgt. Randy Rank: (SOUNDBITE) SGT. RANDY RANK, SAYING: "At this point, there was one person recovered in the vehicle, once it was removed from the ice and that person is deceased." Drivers in Ohio are slowing down too. A winter weather advisory is in effect there until Friday. In Boston, snow started falling around 1 a.m. Thursday. Winter weather warnings are in effect in various parts of the Northeast and snowplows are standing by.
