Are your private messages on Facebook really private? A class action lawsuit filed this week against Facebook claims the social media giant scans private messages for data to sell for profit to third party companies. The lawsuit also alleges Facebook "hides the extent of this intrusive behavior from its users." SOUNDBITE: JOE CULATON, FACEBOOK USER, SAYING: "You are perceiving that it is only private between you two and you are not really thinking that the people from Facebook can actually see what you are talking to your friend about." Facebook has responded to the lawsuit saying the allegations have no merit. SOUNDBITE: SETH ROSENBLATT, CNET, SAYING: "So it wouldn't be surprising in the near future to see the next big social networking service be one that is more privacy forward, it has privacy built in as a feature from the beginning." Last year, Facebook settled another privacy lawsuit over targeted advertising for $20 million.
