The Midwest braces for the coldest weather they've seen in two decades. Forecasters warn the frigid temperatures could be life-threatening, and the Mayor of Indianapolis echoed that sentiment. (SOUNDBITE) (English) GREG BALLARD, MAYOR OF INDIANAPOLIS, SAYING: "This weather combination that we are seeing right now with all of the snow and the cold is unlike anything that we have seen in decades in this area and I can not emphasize that enough. The cold really scares me and as such that we will have temperatures that are potentially deadly or certainly life-altering temperatures right now and we have to be very very careful with that." The Mayor of St. Louis warned drivers to use caution: (SOUNDBITE) (English) FRANCIS SLAY, MAYOR OF ST. LOUIS, SAYING: "This is a dangerous storm. Driving conditions range from difficult to impassable. So our advice to everyone is to please stay off the streets if you can." Icy conditions snarled travel across the Midwest and thousands of flights were canceled or delayed.
