More than 2,000 students returned to classes at Arapahoe High School outside Denver Tuesday for the first time since a shooting at their school last month. There was an increased police presence at the school and an abbreviated schedule so teens would have time to meet with all their teachers and get accustomed to being back in the building. The Sheriff's Department says 18-year-old student Karl Pierson was heavily armed when he came to school December 13 and started firing, shooting student Claire Davis, who died eight days later and also killing himself. Investigators believe Pierson was targeting a speech coach and that Davis was a random victim.
