This is Spozhmay. She's thought to somewhere around ten years old. She's being held by Afghan police in Helmand Province after surrendering herself saying she was forced to wear a suicide vest and attack a checkpoint. She says she was coerced by her brother who's a Taliban commander. (SOUNDBITE)(Pashto) SPOZHMAY SAYING: "My brother Zahir and his friend Jabar forced me to wear the suicide vest. They also gave me extra clothes to wear after crossing the water. They brought me to the river to cross at night but when I saw the water and coldness I shouted and said it was cold and I couldn't cross. They took me back home and took off the vest. My father beat me. I had to run away from home in the middle of the night and spent the rest of the night in a village near our home called Balochan. Early the next morning I surrendered myself to the police in that area." Militants in Iraq have often used child bombers to bypass security checks but in Afghanistan it's a relatively rare experience for police. Spozhmay, who remains in police hands, was reportedly unable to detonate the device.
