STORY: A group of about 100 construction workers clashed with police on Tuesday in the city of Iquitos in Peru's Amazon.
The protesters descended on the town hall of the southern Iquitos district of San Juan Bautista carrying large sticks to demonstrate against the dismissal of 75 colleagues.
Riot police dispersed the protesters with tear gas and rubber bullets. The protesters responded with rocks and sticks.
Local media reported that six civilians were injured by rubber bullets and eight policemen were injured as a result of being hit with rocks and sticks.
The protesters were demanding a dialogue with the Mayor of San Juan Bautista.
