(SOUNDBITE) GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE, NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYING: "I am heartbroken and incredibly disappointed. I don't think I've gotten to angry stage yet, but I'm sure I will get there. I'm just stunned." Governor Chris Christie says he trusted his staff, and was devastated to learn an aide was involved in a growing traffic scandal, and then lied to him about it. (SOUNDBITE) GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE, NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYING: "I had no knowledge about this, and first found out about this after it was over. Thought it was a traffic study." The Governor, considered by many to be a GOP Presidential prospect in 2016, says he has fired the staffer involved in shutting down several lanes leading to the busy George Washington Bridge for four days in September. The closures caused chaos for hundreds of thousands and even delayed some emergency responders. (SOUNDBITE) GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE, NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYING: "I am embarrassed and humiliated by the conduct of some of the people on my team. There is no doubt in my mind the conduct they exhibited is completely unacceptable, and showed a lack of respect for the appropriate role in government and the people we are trusted to serve." Critics say the lane closures were intended as political revenge against the local mayor who didn't endorse Governor Christie's re-election efforts. The Governor says even he doesn't understand that. (SOUNDBITE) GOV. CHRIS CHRISTIE, NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYING: "Part of this is, I never saw this as political retribution because I didn't think he did anything to us." Christie says he will also apologize in person to the town of Fort Lee, New Jersey where the closures happened, and its Democratic mayor.
