Police say a suicide bomber killed 13 Iraqi recruits and wounded more than 30 others in Baghdad.
According to police, a man with an explosive vest blew himself up as recruits were registering their names at a small Muthanna airfield, now used by the Iraqi army.
This man witnessed the attack:
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EYEWITNESS, AHMED, SAYING:
" An explosion targeted the volunteers, a suicide wearing explosive belt detonated himself, where should the people go? All these people are looking for their daily living."
The men killed were responding to a government appeal for volunteers to help fight al Qaeda-linked militants in Anbar province.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
