With the 2014 award season in full swing, having the perfect dress is almost as important as taking home a trophy. Newcomer, actress Lupita Nyong'o, is sure to join carpet history makers with the bold red Ralph Lauren gown she wore to the Golden Globe Awards. Others already on that list include Jennifer Lopez's famous green Versace dress, Cher's midriff-baring Oscar look and Toni Braxton's daring cut out dress. Oscar winner Julia Roberts said selecting the right dress is as much about ease as it is about style. SOUNDBITE: Julia Roberts, actress, saying (English): "Just whatever I'm comfortable in. You know, makes me feel like you're celebrating something great." For Jennifer Hudson slipping on a winning look is a collaborative effort. SOUNDBITE: Jennifer Hudson, actress, saying (English): "My stylist comes in with several options. And then some way I know, it's like, that's the one. Let's go for this one, you know? It depends on the occasion and then it depends on the mood as well." Miley Cyrus officially abandoned her "Hannah Montana" image in 2013 with a mix of classic and bold fashions. Beyonce's longtime stylist Ty Hunter said wearing a daring frock carries a message. SOUNDBITE: Ty Hunter, stylist, saying (English): "You have to be confident to pull off a dress that's plunged all the way to the end. You have to be able to go out there and say I'm hot." But no matter how glamorous the gown, Hunter says the wrong undergarment can ruin any moment. SOUNDBITE: Ty Hunter, stylist, saying (English): "There are plunge bras, there's strapless bras, there's Spanx. It's a lot that goes on under. So the first thing you have to focus on is your under garments, it's very important. And then there's double stick tape. It's a lot, it's a lot. You're at war, it's a lot of armor that goes into preparing for the red carpet." However, in the end fashion commentator Kelly Osbourne says it's all about having fun. SOUNDBITE: Kelly Osbourne, tv personality, saying (English): "You have to have a fun attitude about what you're doing. Know where you're going. And realize at the end of the day you're not trying to be the prettiest person in the room you just want to have the most fun."
