"12 Years a Slave" took the coveted Golden Globe for best drama but Steve McQueen's slavery drama was entirely shut out from the acting honors, for which it had been a presumed favorite. "American Hustle," directed by David O. Russell, was the top winner with three Globes for its seven nominations, including best musical or comedy. The AIDS film "Dallas Buyers Club" starring Matthew McConaughey, took home two acting awards for him and co-star Jared Leto. Sean Penn called upon his fellow actors for his 3rd Annual Help Haiti Home Gala and raised approximately 6 million dollars (USD) on Saturday (January 11) in Beverly Hills. Among those joining Penn were good friends Charlize Theron, Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow and Michael Douglas. It was also a busy weekend for Penn's former wife, Robin Wright. The actress not only took home a Golden Globe on Sunday, but also got engaged to actor Ben Foster. The two have been dating since early last year. The 11th annual G'Day USA Awards gala was held in Los Angeles over the weekend as well. Cate Blanchett walked the red carpet with Geoffrey Rush. Blanchett presented him with the Excellence in the Arts award, while Jacki Weaver was presented with the Excellence in Film award by Mel Gibson. Also in attendance at the gala were Aussie stars Naomi Watts and American star John Travolta.
