Michael Douglas wins UNICEF award

Jan. 14 - Golden Globe winner Michael Douglas picked up his second prize of the week as he won a UNICEF Peace Award. Francis Maguire reports.

The Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas has been given a peace award by UNICEF. The 'Wall Street' star picked up the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Peace Award at the 2014 UNICEF Ball. It comes in light of Douglas' ongoing calls for nuclear disarmament. SOUNDBITE Actor, Michael Douglas, saying (English): "I did a movie many, many years ago called 'The China Syndrome' about the nuclear power plant having a meltdown, which gave me some sense of what was going on. I also went to visit where my father comes from in Belarus which is downwind from Chernobyl and that's some of the earlier ways I became involved." The award is named after the performer Danny Kaye, who was UNICEF's first goodwill ambassador. And it's Douglas' second prize this week, after he picked up a Golden Globe for his performance as Liberace in "Behind the Candelabra".
