In Skokie, Illnois they woke up to seven inches of snow --- the first signs of a fast moving cold front that will plunge the midwest into a deep freeze before dumping a foot of snow on parts of the East Coast. They aren't taking any chances in Washington DC and surrounding areas --- where trucks are out in full force coating the roads with salt brine-- a step they say will make it harder for the snow to stick. While the storm isn't expected to hit the Eastern U.S. until late on Tuesday --- temperatures are already dropping Much of the federal government has closed its doors and nearly 2,000 flights have already been canceled. Anxious locals are using the time to stock up on supplies and to get in some exercise before the polar front arrives. The cold snap is expected to extent as far south as Florida all the way up to Boston.
