Jan. 24 - Firefighter says it took hours to extricate victims trapped under multiple semi-trailer trucks after a massive pileup in Indiana that left three people dead and 20 injured. Deborah Gembara reports.

First responders on site after a massive 46-car pileup near Michigan City, Indiana. SOUNDBITE: Mic Pawlik, Cool Springs township volunteer fireman saying: "It was such a devastating scene. You don't know where to start, but when people are stuck in their cars, they look at you like you are Moses, 'part the waters -- save us." Three people were killed and twenty were injured in the collision which involved passenger cars and semi-trailer trucks. Firefighter Mic Pawlik says reaching victims was difficult. SOUNDBITE: : Mic Pawlik, Cool Springs towniship volunteer fireman saying: "The semis. He was encased in semis. He was on top of a car. It took us about two hours to get him out." Weather and speed made things particularly dangerous for drivers. Lt. Jerry Williams of the Indiana State police... SOUNDBITE: Lt. Jerry Williams of the Indiana State police saying: "When you hit that band of snow and you are traveling at high speeds, unfortunately, if your vehicles doesn't react right or you don't react right in your vehicle, we have unfortunate situations like this that will occur." Williams says an investigation into other contributing possible factors is underway. Crews worked through the night to clear the highway --- which connects Detroit to Chicago.
