Florida Congressman Trey Radel has resigned. The Republican representative stepped down on Monday, saying he could longer effectively serve in Congress. His resignation comes weeks after he pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and checked into rehab. Radel was caught buying cocaine from an undercover agent in October. The first-term congressman was sentenced to one year of probation. He returned to work in early January, at the time refusing to step down. SOUNDBITE: U.S. REPRESENTATIVE TREY RADEL, SAYING: "I really enjoy serving, and I want to get back to doing that, and continue doing the good work that we've done." Radel says he only used cocaine a few times. He did not specify what his plans are after leaving Congress. A special election will be held to fill his vacant seat.
