Maryland mall reopens after deadly shooting

Jan. 27 - The Mall in Columbia will be back open for business following a shooting that left two mall employees and the suspected gunman dead. Linda So reports.

Two days after a deadly shooting at the Mall in Columbia, Maryland, doors will be back open for business on Monday. (SOUNDBITE) (English) HOWARD COUNTY POLICE CHIEF BILL MCMAHON, SAYING: "Nothing's going to go back to normal. This mall's going to be different because of what happened. We all understand that. But our job is to make sure this cornerstone of our community is open as soon as possible." Police say 19-year-old Darion Aguilar shot and killed two employees inside the Zumiez skate shop Saturday morning before killing himself. Investigators say there is still no known relationship between the victims and the shooter. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SYDNEY PETTY, VICTIM TYLER JOHNSON'S AUNT, SAYING: "You never think it's going to be you, but this time it was us." Police have searched the home where Aguilar lived with his mother. They recovered ammunition and a journal he kept. (SOUNDBITE) (English) HOWARD COUNTY POLICE CHIEF BILL MCMAHON, SAYING: "He does express some general unhappiness with his life." There will be an increased police presence when the mall reopens Monday afternoon at 1. Zumiez, the store where the shootings happened, will remain closed. But visitors will be invited to sign memory books and float flowers in the mall's fountain in honor of the victims.
