Hollywood star, Scarlett Johansson, has resigned from her role as a global ambassador for Oxfam. This comes after the charity expressed disappointment at the "Lost In Translation" actor's decision to become the public face of SodaStream. The Israel-based soda-maker has been criticised for owning a factory in the occupied West Bank. In a statement reported in American media, Johansson's spokesman wrote that Johansson "and Oxfam have a fundamental difference of opinion in regards to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement." But Oxfam, which discourages trade with Israeli firms located in the occupied West Bank said, "Oxfam has accepted Scarlett Johansson's decision to step down, Ms. Johansson's role promoting the company SodaStream is incompatible with her role as an Oxfam Global Ambassador." "Oxfam believes that businesses, such as SodaStream, that operate in settlements further the ongoing poverty and denial of rights of the Palestinian communities that we work to support." Johansson was named an Oxfam ambassador in 2007 and has taken part in a number of its campaigns. But that will no longer be the case in future.
