It should have been his moment of triumph…. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie celebrating a Super Bowl related event on Saturday -- as his state readied for the big game. Instead, he was greeted with boos and jeers. The normally popular Governor remains dogged by political scandal. The latest came Friday from former aide David Wildstein. He said through his attorney that Christie DID know about a politically motivated bridge closure orchestrated by some of his aides which caused major disruptions last month. A scheme Christie has denied knowing anything about. SOUNDBITE: NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE SAYING: "I had no knowledge of this, of the planning, of the execution, or anything about it." The negative public sentiment around Christie is unusual. He's been considered a leading Republican candidate for a 2016 presidential bid. But hours after the Wildstein allegation, he avoided reporters in Manhattan. On Sunday, former Republican New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani came to Christie's defense on CBS's Face the Nation. SOUNDBITE: FORMER NYC MAYOR RUDY GIULIANI SAYING: "I think the Governor knows the consequences, if he's lying it's a really bad situation, if he's not lying then something very unfair is being done to him so let's see what happens." Several local papers said the Governor's political career may be doomed if he can't defend himself from the latest claim. In its editorial, the New York Daily News said Christie - quote - "stands on the brink of ruin."
