Emaciated and weary, Jose Salvador Alvarenga emerges from a patrol boat. The fisherman, who can be seen helped by a male nurse, washed ashore in the Marshall Islands this weekend. The 37 year-old says he spent more than a year adrift in the Pacific Ocean. He apparently survived by catching fish and birds with his bare hands. Thought to be from El Salvador, Alvarenga told officials he set sail on a shark fishing trip from Mexico at the end of 2012...some 10,000 km away....but was blown off course.
