While the Russian 2014 Winter Olympics went off with a bang -- It didn't all go off without a hitch. One of the Olympic rings didn't light up during the opening ceremony. But that didn't stop nearly 40,000 spectators from enjoying themselves. This South African Olympic-attending veteran loved it. (SOUNDBITE) (English) OLYMPIC CEREMONY AUDIENCE MEMBER, FROM SOUTH AFRICA PHIL GUTCHE, SAYING: "I also think the final torch, lighting of the torch was, again, spectacular. We've been to a number of Olympics, and this is really one of the greatest. They did a great job." Meanwhile, journalists covering the games were quick to take to Twitter with their accommodation woes. A journalist from the Toronto Star tweeted this picture with the caption,"In my Sochi hotel. You're welcome to pop by and sit forlornly in my Chairs of Desolation." While Russian President Vladimir Putin says homosexuals won't be discriminated against at the Games -- despite the country's ban on "homosexual propaganda" -- Ten gay rights protesters in Moscow's red square were arrested for waving rainbow flags. And despite numerous reports of a potential security threat, the Games appear to have had a relatively smooth start.
