They're what the Westminster Kennel Club calls "All-American dogs," or mixed-breeds. For the first time since the early days of the Westminster dog show, mixed breeds will be allowed to compete. On Saturday, the "All-American" pups were allowed to compete in a pre-show agility contest in New York City. And the owners of the new mix-breed competitors are proud of it. (SOUNDBITE) IRENE PALMERINI SAYING: "I'm representing everybody who sits at home with their dog on the couch and loves them just because they're their pet." Three-thousand dogs will be in the Big Apple on Monday and Tuesday to compete for top dog. For the main event, pure-bred dogs will be judged on how closely they conform to their breed's ideal.
