French President Francois Hollande will be traveling solo as he heads to the U.S. for a state visit. Hollande and his former partner Valerie Trierweiler were named on the official statement announcing the visit. Hollande has since announced his split with her, after an alleged affair with an actress. Dominique Moisi, a senior advisor at the French Institute for International Relations, says Hollande's solo trip is a notable change from when John F. Kennedy visited France with his wife in 1961. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SENIOR ADVISOR AT THE FRENCH INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS PROFESSOR DOMINIQUE MOISI SAYING: "In a way, he's just the opposite of John Fitzgerald Kennedy when he arrived to Europe in the early 1960s when he said I am the man who is accompanying Jacqueline Bouvier, Jackie Kennedy. Francois Hollande is the man who comes alone. I am the French president who comes alone, look, there's no First Lady." The U.S.-French alliance dates to the founding of America in the late 18th century. These days the two nations are working together on Iran, Syria, North Africa and other trouble spots. It will be the first state visit hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama in nearly 2-1/2 years.
