It's been one of Toyota's top selling cars. But now around 1.9 million of its third-generation Prius model are to be recalled over a faulty software system. The problem is down to a programming glitch in its hybrid system. Toyota said the fault could cause the vehicle to slow down suddenly and even stop. The majority of the recalls - about half - are in Japan with a further 700,000 in the North America. So far there have been no reported accidents or injuries. But it's another blow to the Japanese carmaker's reputation. Generally vehicle recalls across the industry are on the rise. Aston Martin was one of the latest after discovering Chinese subcontractors were using counterfeit plastic to make some of its parts. . Last week the luxury carmaker announced it's recalling most of the models built since 2007. Toyota still holds the record for the biggest recall, following 7.4 million in 2012. It was the single biggest recall since Ford Motor Co. took 8 million vehicles off the road in 1996.
