From eastern Texas to the Carolinas, the US has been pelted with ice, sleet and snow, wreaking havoc in the south.
Now the deadly winter storm is threatening to pummel the eastern seaboard.
More than 350,000 people are without power in the south and thousands of flights have been cancelled because of ice and strong winds.
Many have been left stranded as transport comes to a standstill.
The roads are nearly deserted as drivers heed warnings to stay inside.
At least nine deaths have already been blamed on the storm.
Three of them were killed when an ambulance slid off an icy Texas road and caught fire.
North Carolina and Virginia are bracing for up to 30 cm of snow.
The National Weather Service said it was a storm of "historical proportions"....but history aside most kids are happy to take advantage of a snow day away from school.
