A castle fit for a king is on display at Mayville's Ice Festival in New York State. This year's weather has created the perfect condition for one of the biggest castles in the festival's history. And visitors are taking notice: (SOUNDBITE) (English) VISITOR TRISHA DESCAMP, SAYING: "I think it's pretty amazing. I was surprised at what they have done. It was great weather for this, this year." It's something head builder David Douglas is proud of: (SOUNDBITE) (English) ICE CASTLE HEAD BUILDER DAVID DOUGLAS, SAYING: "It took us about a week to build this castle. The size of the blocks really help we had between 13-16 inch blocks that makes construction a lot quicker." More than one thousand blocks of ice went into the construction - taken from the local Chautauqua Lake. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ICE CASTLE HEAD BUILDER DAVID DOUGLAS, SAYING: "We harvest the blocks out of the lake with a chainsaw, modify it on a sled with a couple of snow mobile skis and harvest the blocks up the lake with a winch and set the blocks up with a crane and other heavy equipment." (SOUNDBITE) (English) VISITOR CANDY ZAK, SAYING: "We come down to see it every year and it really hasn't been here, until now. The last couple of years there hasn't been any. It's just exciting" Festival-goers can take part in snowball fights, sleigh rides and ice skating… but the highlight this year is most definitely the long-waited, glowing castle.
