Through an Olympic snowstorm, the spotlight shines on American David Wise. He's grabbed hold of a gold medal… a first in the debut of the men's freestyle skiing halfpipe event. Wise was forced to downgrade his routine due to the atrocious weather conditions, but even so, he nailed his first run of the night and scored 92.00. In the end, a number his top competitors couldn't touch. Canadian Mike Riddle took silver and France's Kevin Rolland won the bronze. In an interview at the start of the Games, Wise said he was focused on his skiing ability - not security threats. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. HALFPIPE TEAM, DAVID WISE, SAYING: "I don't think anybody up here has felt any danger since we've been here, so we're pretty confident that we're going to be able to just focus on our skiing and competing and not let those outside influences really bother or worry us. It's not something that I'm really focused on and I think I could say the same for the rest of my team mates up here." His focus paid off. The 23-year-old produced a spectacular display of acrobatics high above the 6.8 metre walls in the first round. And he brings home the gold to his wife and daughter.
