Summing up Rio's surf conditions, dogs and their owners get set for the second annual Stand Up Dogs competition.
Paddle boarders were joined by their four-legged friends over a 300 meter or 328-yard course.
Some dogs chose to take a mellow approach …
While others chose to stand up against the waves.
Neil Valdeck's dog Flipa took to paddling as a young puppy.
SOUNDBITE: Neil Valdeck, competitor, saying (Portuguese):
"I adopted this dog right there on the beach. She was born there. Her mother was a beach dog and lived around a kiosk. The guy working there fed her mother."
Winner of the women's contest was Marcella Witt and her dog Pinga.
SOUNDBITE: Marcella Witt, 2014 Women's Champion, saying (Portuguese):
"When I heard about this contest with dogs I said, 'I'm going to have to enter.' It was really cool and it's super new for me. I'm very happy and Pinga is also very happy."
And perhaps just a little tired?
