ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The former home of America's first president George Washington was crowded with tourists as the United States observed Presidents Day on Monday (February 17). Hundreds are expected to visit Mount Vernon in Virginia where admission fees have been waived in honor of the holiday. Taps, the melancholy musical piece typically played during military funerals, could be heard earlier on Monday and was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at Washington's tomb. Special tours, cooking demonstrations, re-enactments and musical tributes have been planned for the day at the sprawling estate. Washington was actually born on February 22nd but his birthday is celebrated on the third Monday of the month.
