When the jackpot gets this big, the machines get hot.
$400 million is up for grabs in Wednesday night's Powerball drawing, one of the largest jackpots in lotto history.
In Manhattan, a steady stream of people stopped to purchase tickets at a newsstand, many dreaming big about the huge prize.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) RICHARD, POWERBALL PLAYER, SAYING:
"Oh Lord. Only the Lord knows what I'm going to do. First of all, I'm going to bless God. I'm going to give money to my church. Then, I'm going to take care of my family. And then, I'm going to take care of myself. I think I deserve it."
The jackpot soared by about $70 million after no winning tickets were sold in Saturday's drawing.
Lottery hopefuls are betting big on their jackpot dreams.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) FRANCINE, POWERBALL PLAYER, SAYING:
"I'm going to take care of all my friends and family and cats and veterans and you know, people in need. See, these are things you say so you do win."
(SOUNDBITE) (English) JERRY, POWERBALL PLAYER, SAYING:
"I'm gonna buy me a golf course. A golf... just like Tiger Woods."
The lottery says the odds of winning the big prize, no matter how many tickets a player buys, are one in 175 million.
