Emergency services in Ukraine on Wednesday (February 19) battled a blaze at the headquarters of the opposition protest movement that has brought the country to its knees. People were seen climbing on the side of the trade union building - used as an anti-government headquarters - as jets of water were sprayed onto the fire, while thick smoke billowed from the top. Dozens of emergency service vehicles were at the scene. The fire began after the bloodiest day since the former Soviet republic, caught in a geopolitical struggle between Russia and the West, won its independence.
