What happened in this Springfield, Missouri neighborhood is weighing heavily on the minds of parents. SOUNDBITE: SAMANTHA JONES, NEIGHBOR, SAYING: "I'm just shaken about the whole thing because you just never know anymore and you just can't trust anybody." SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED NEIGHBOR, SAYING: "We do walk the neighborhood a lot and play outside and it's scary, makes us want to stay in the backyard." 45-year-old Craig Michael Wood is charged with first degree murder and kidnapping in the death of 10-year-old Hailey Owens. Police say Wood abducted the girl while she was walking to a friend's house. According to court documents, Hailey's body was found in the basement of Wood's home inside two trash bags. She had a gunshot wound to the back of her head. SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED NEIGHBOR, SAYING: "I hope she didn't know anything was going to happen to her. It's not fair, my heart goes out to the family for sure, for sure." Wood was employed as a para-professional and a seventh grade football coach in the Springfield school district. School officials say he passed a background check in 2006. Parents say Hailey's tragic kidnapping and death will change the way they look after kids. SOUNDBITE: SAMANTHA JONES, NEIGHBOR, SAYING: "Just be aware of my surroundings. You know, looking out for other children, not just mine." Police believe the abduction was random and that Wood did not know his victim.
