Bullet holes and burned out buildings are all that remain in villages of Nigeria's Adamawa state. An overnight assault by gunmen from the Islamist group Boko Haram kills at least 12 people. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ADAMAWA RESIDENT MOSES ISA SAYING: "Shooting, shooting bombs, shootings, too much shootings, so even people run to the mountains. They don't know where. They are displaced." Residents said the gunmen burned churches, houses, shops and more. Boko Haram, which is fighting for an Islamic state in northern Nigeria, is increasingly attacking civilians. One man said his brother was killed. (SOUNDBITE) (English) JULIUS JAMES, BROTHER OF ATTACK VICTIM, SAYING: "Now they intended to beat him, intending to beat him now, they macheted him on his head. They pierced him with a knife on his hand, then one of them from afar, shot him with a bullet. Now, they carry him and put him in the culvert, there, there are about three in one place, in that culvert, so that's how he died." The attack comes two days after the group killed 59 students at a boarding school in the nearby Yobe state.
