Obama warns Russia against any military intervention in Ukraine

Feb. 28 - President Barack Obama on Friday expressed concern about reported Russian military movement inside crisis-torn Ukraine and warned of consequences. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

With reports of Russian military operations inside Ukraine's Crimea, U.S. President Barack Obama is raising concerns at the White House. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "We are now deeply concerned by reports of military movements taken by the Russian Federation inside of Ukraine." He says it's in no one's interests to interfere. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "Any violation of Ukraine's sovereignty or territorial integrity would be deeply destabilizing, which is not in the interests of Ukraine Russia, or Europe. It would represent a profound interference in matters that must be determined by the Ukrainian people." He's also warning Russia that there will a price to pay if it intervenes. (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "The United States will stand with the international community in affirms that there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine." Armed men took control of two airports in the Crimea region Friday in what the new Ukrainian leadership described as an invasion by Moscow's forces.
