A funeral for six paramilitary soldiers in Pakistan. Militants killed twelve members of a security escort for a polio vaccination team earlier Saturday. Some religious leaders think the vaccination campaign is a cover for spying, or a way to secretly sterilize Muslim children. The attack reportedly lasted one hour, and gunman attacked rescuers when they approached the scene. It occurred in the northwestern region of Jamrud. The Provincial governor is calling those killed "martyrs." (SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) GOVERNOR OF KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA (KPK) PROVINCE, SHAUKATULLAH KHAN, SAYING: "These martyrs had not come here to attack anybody's house, or to carry out any such activity. They had come here to administer life-saving drops to your children, to prevent this (polio) disability among your people. But they have been brutally killed, which is not the tradition of this region." They were protecting a group of health workers traveling to the region to deliver the vaccinations. Polio vaccination teams are frequently attacked in Pakistan, but UNICEF isn't sure who just who was targeted in the attack.
