March 4 - A landmark deal between Dish Network and Walt Disney marks the first time a pay-TV operator will stream a media company's content to smartphones, tablets, and computers. Fred Katayama reports.

A big step toward TV Everywhere: A landmark agreement allows Dish Network to not only deliver Disney's programming to the TV sets of their satellite subscribers but also stream it to them outside the home. It marks the first time a pay-TV operator will offer a media company's content over the Internet to smartphones, tablets, and computers. Viewers will be able to watch channels like ABC, Disney Channel and ESPN on the go.
The deal also nixes the lawsuits between the two companies over Dish's ad-skipping service, AutoHop. Dish will disable that service for ABC programming for the first three days of a show's airing when ratings are measured.
Investors nodded their approval, sending stocks of both companies higher in early trading.
BTIG analyst Richard Greenfield said, "The Dish/Disney deal appears to set the stage for a new wave of broadband-delivered video services."
Archrival DirecTV's programming contract with Disney expires next year. Brean Captal expects Direct to strike a similar deal.
