Powder from fire extignuishers is the only remaining sign of confrontation at Beijing's famous Tiananmen Square....but it is soon swept away.
Security is tight as China's annual parliament session, the National People's Congress, opens on Wednesday.
But these pictures have emerged from a Chinese website run by a group of dissidents.
A cloud of smoke or powder rises from the pavement.
Witnesses say this photograph is of a 40-year-old woman trying to set herself on fire right outside the NPC, during the opening session.
When the Reuters' camera crew arrived at the scene police told them to stop filming. Reuters is unable to independently verify whether the incident took place.
