March 9 - A suicide bomber kills at least 32 people after detonating explosives on a minibus at a checkpoint in the southern Iraqi city of Hilla, according to police and medical sources. Gavino Garay reports.

At least 32 people were killed and more than 140 injured in the blast, according to police and medical sources.
An eyewitness explains.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNIDENTIFIED EYEWITNESS SAYING:
"This was a blast at a crowded checkpoint, Al-Athar checkpoint, killing many innocent civilians and policemen."
The attacker approached a northern entrance to the largely Shi'ite Muslim city, then detonated the explosives.
No official word on who was behind the bombing.
An official said the death toll is expected to rise.
The security situation in Iraq has been turbulent. A year of constant bombings killed at least 8,000 civilians in 2013
It's the highest since 2008.
