Suu Kyi and Yeoh launch foundation in Myanmar

Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and Michelle Yeoh, who portrayed her in ''The Lady', launch a foundation that will support health care and education. Rollo Ross reports.

Ahead of a conference addressing free press in Myanmar - also known as Burma - opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi launched her Suu Foundation alongside actress Michelle Yeoh, who played the political prisoner in the 2011 Luc Besson movie "The Lady." SOUNDBITE (English) Founder of the Suu Foundation, Aung San Suu Kyi, saying (English) "Many people have talked about the amazing changes that have taken place in this country. And I would like to say quite frankly that these changes have been not all that great and not all that amazing. But, but, there is one thing that none of us can deny -- there is greater freedom of the press." The Suu Foundation is aimed at improving health care and education in Myanmar. Michelle Yeoh, who was deported from there in 2011 for her connection to the Burmese politician, is a member of the foundation's board. SOUNDBITE (English) Suu Foundation Board Member, Michelle Yeoh, saying (English): "As a member of the board of the Suu Foundation, I am incredibly proud and honoured to join with Daw Suu as she begins the next chapter of her life and continues to improve the lives of her fellow citizens. The focus of the Suu Foundation will be the simplest but most fundamental things -- health care and education." Other high profile board members for the Suu Foundation include US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former First Lady Laura Bush.
