Putin rubber stamps Crimea, Russia storms the region's naval headquarters

March 19 - Putin moves to raise pensions for Crimeans as pro-Russian forces storm the region's naval HQ. Gavino Garay reports.

As Ukrainian troops in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine conduct military drills, out of concern over Russian intervention... Signs once written in Ukrainian, are being replaced with Russian in Crimea after it voted to join Russia over the weekend. Now, Russian Putin President Vladimir Putin is telling his government to raise pensions for Crimeans. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN, SAYING: "It is up to you to decide how you are going to do it. You and the Duma State deputies have to think it through and do it, and please do not procrastinate. Do it as soon as possible." Meanwhile, this Ukrainian Navy captain in Crimea is walking out. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UKRAINIAN NAVY CAPTAIN OLEKSANDER BALANYUK, SAYING "Everything happened spontaneously. There were many promises from the Russian side and our side that the base will not be stormed, that all issues will be resolved through political means, but as you see now - there was a takeover." Ukrainian Presidential hopeful Vitaly Klitschko is also urging Ukrainian troops in Crimea to leave. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UKRAINIAN POLITICIAN VITALY KLITSCHKO, SAYING: "We must not wait and risk people's lives, leaving them in danger. Therefore, a decision must be taken immediately to pull the Ukrainian troops out of Crimea into their new temporary locations, as well as to provide support and create infrastructure for the citizens who will be forced to temporarily leave Crimea." All this, as Russian landing craft sail in... And Russian troops storm Crimea's naval headquarters. To eventually swap out the Ukrainian flag, for the Russian one.
