Santigao is an eight-month-old Colombian baby who weighs 20 kilos, or 44 pounds.
Constant milk bottles led to his obesity.
Doctor Salvador Palacio is the director of the Chubby Hearts Foundation. He describes Santiago's condition.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CHUBBY HEARTS DIRECTOR SALVADOR PALACIO, SAYING:
"He is a baby who - at the moment - weighs as much as a five or six-year-old in Colombia. He has a metabolic syndrome, in other words progressive weight gain, and he is also suffering from lung problems and anxiety. He is a compulsive eater... We have to subject him to some physical activity therapy programs."
The baby's mother, 39-year-old Eunice Fandino was worried about her child's folds of fat that were hindering his ability to crawl. That led her to seek help.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) BABY'S MOTHER EUNICE FANDINO, SAYING:
"I am worried, first of all because it is difficult to carry him around. He looks very cute like this but his health is not good. And so I think he should receive treatment so that he is able to get back to his normal weight."
Without intervention, the baby's condition could cause a heart attack. His weight could also cause a delay in motor development.
Doctors are putting Santiago on a strict diet of vegetables and fruit.
They expect to lower the baby's weight to eight kilos, or 17 pounds, in six months to a year.
