March 26 - Two firefighters were killed in a 9-alarm fire that raced through Boston's historic Back Bay neighborhood, officials said. Jillian Kitchener reports.

Through a haze of smoke - a scene that will continue to horrify Boston. Two firefighters were killed in this 9-alarm fire along Beacon Street. It broke out in a four-story building in the city's historic Back Bay neighborhood, drawing a large-scale emergency response. Fire officials say 13 people were taken to hospitals. The two firefighters who died had saved some residents. (SOUNDBITE) (English) DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF JOSEPH FINN, SAYING: "They actually saved a number of occupants from the upper floors of the building. In 30 years I've never seen a fire travel that fast, escalate that quickly and create such havoc in such a short period of time. The wind was blowing in off the Charles, it drove the fire and everything with it, all the products, the combustions to the front of the building where engine 33 which was where the two members were assigned." The two firefighters saved lives… I've never seen a fire so big… swept through quickly." The raging fire broke out around 2:30pm, and is said to have started in the basement.
