New York artist Bradley Hart is packing his artistic interpretations into bubble wrap. Over the past four years Hart has mastered a top-secret technique that involves custom made computer algorithms, syringes, homemade tools and passion. The artist said the idea to use bubble wrap came after an encounter with gallery security guards, who were overly protective of the displayed artwork. SOUNDBITE: Bradley Hart, artist, saying (English): "I'm sitting there and I'm looking at it and I'm thinking, 'Oh my God, that's it.' And I know that it's an idea that wasn't one hundred percent new, to play with the idea of the culture trope of whether or not one should touch art. Because that's what the art began as. They didn't began with paintings or the sculptures they are moving into, it actually began as a sculpture of just a roll of bubble wrap and playing with the idea that should you touch the art or not." Hart said seeing his works in person almost mimics the experience people have when viewing pictures in digital form. SOUNDBITE: Bradley Hart, artist, saying (English): "We're into pixels. So what you are actually seeing is a representation of something in a digital form. So for me, I like bringing high tech back down to low-tech. So hence it's all very labor, it's done by hand. I inject computer technology in our times and then I dumb it down." In addition to the injected original, he also creates a second work, an impression of the piece from the dried paint that drips down the back of the bubble wrap. SOUNDBITE: Bradley Hart, artist, saying (English): "So the idea of separating the two and purposely having this digital map that gets impressed into the impression as well as the fact that it's literally an impression of the actually first piece creates a nice dialogue." SOUNDBITE: Bradley Hart, artist, saying (English): "This is Matisse Odalisque interrupted and the impression that will go corresponding with it." The Toronto native is in the process of finishing works for his upcoming show "The Masters Interpreted: Injections & Impressions by Bradley Hart." Hart will show off his latest work on May 7th at Cavalier Galleries in New York.
