An auction in Oklahoma tries to find new homes for horses seized by local deputies. The horses were starving. Helen Varner, co-owner of the Mid America Stockyard, says that the horses were nursed back to health before being auctioned. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CO-OWNER OF MID AMERICA STOCKYARD, INC., HELEN VARNER, SAYING: "Now that horses are so cheap, lots of people can get into the horse market without realizing what it actually takes to keep a horse in the condition that it needs to be kept in." But Marcie Adams was prepared. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CREEK COUNTY RESIDENT, MARCIE ADAMS, SAYING: "I knew which ones I wanted to grab hold of and what my wallet would afford." Adams is neighbors with the horses' previous owner. She and her son would try to feed the horses, who were growing more and more frail. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CREEK COUNTY RESIDENT, MARCIE ADAMS, SAYING: "I wish they'd have taken and asked for help a little bit more. It was upsetting." Adams is now the proud owner of a three-year-old filly named Beauty, and a mare. She hopes to ride in a rodeo once the horses are good and healthy.
