Man survives freak chain saw accident

April 2 - A tree climber near Pittsburgh survives a freak chain saw accident when the saw jams into his neck. Mana Rabiee reports.

This is the incredible x-ray doctors outside Pittsburgh were looking at when they examined James Valentine in the emergency room. The tree climber got his chain saw stuck in his neck during a freak accident cutting down trees. SOUNDBITE: TREE CLIMBER JAMES VALENTINE SAYING: "The chain saw came back at me and got stuck in my neck" SOUNDBITE: EMS GREG PORTER SAYING: "As soon as the accident happened the injured person was able to hold the saw in front of himself. He never lost consciousness." Incredibly, Valentine was able to climb down on his own. SOUNDBITE: TREE CLIMBER JAMES VALENTINE SAYING: "I was holding it with this hand and scooted down with this hand....soon as I got down... Just seeing the blood just squirting out that was crazy" He's lucky he didn't try to remove the saw from his neck. SOUNDBITE: TRAUMA SURGEON DR. CHRISTINE TOEVS SAYING: "If you take the chain saw out, you would have massive bleeding " Paramedics took it apart while it was still in Valentines' neck. SOUNDBITE: TRAUMA SURGEON DR. CHRISTINE TOEVS SAYING: "We took the chain saw out and there was no bleeding." He got stitches to his neck and shoulders but is expected to make a full recovery, so he'll be back to climbing trees soon enough. SOUNDBITE: TREE CLIMBER JAMES VALENTINE SAYING: "I am a tree climber that's what I do."
