Some of the biggest names in fashion turned out at the V&A Museum in London on April 1st for the launch of new exhibition, "The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014", which celebrates everything about Italian style. SOUNDBITE Designer Tom Ford, saying (English): "Well I think the craftsmanship is what is really so attractive about Italian produced goods. There is a quality, there is still an innate sense of something you really can't put words to." SOUNDBITE Actress Elizabeth Hurley, saying (English): "I think they love the female body and I think they love women and they like women to look fabulous so I like it. I approve." The exhibition shows how Italy became a major player in the fashion world after the Second World War thanks to the creator of Italian fashion shows, Giovanni Battista Giorgini. SOUNDBITE Curator of the exhibition, Sonnet, Stanfill, saying (English): "If Christian Dior is credited with restarting the French couture industry in 1947 with his new look, I think we also have to give equivalent credit to Giorgini for launching the Italian fashion industry because his fashion shows brought international attention to Italy and Italian fashion for the first time." Sonnet Stanfill curated the exhibition which charts an explosion in business throughout the 1950s and 1960s, which was helped in no small way by Hollywood stars wearing Italian couture and jewellery. SOUNDBITE Curator of the exhibition, Sonnet, Stanfill, saying (English): "Of course fashions worn by Hollywood celebrities on the streets of Rome when they were on set and off set and their romances as well while they filming which were chronicled by the paparazzi and the popular press. That media attention really shone a spotlight on a whole generation of Italian designers." The exhibition chronicles the fashion up to the present day with all the major fashion houses contributing couture designs to the exhibition. "The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014" opens on April 5th and closes on July 27th.
