A storm barges through Texas, packing strong winds and hail large enough to rip through car windows. It caught locals by surprise. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN MAKING EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT: "Please go in your bathrooms if you are not in the basement. This is a serious warning." (SOUNDBITE) (English) KRISTEN MAXWELL SAYING: "It was crashing hard. Definitely sounded like gunshots. Baseball-sized hail and everything." (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED STUDENT SAYING: "We were in the room and the announcement went off and we literally started running." From the center of Texas to the northeast corner of Missouri, authorities noted dozens of reports of strong winds, and more than 100 reports of hail -- some the size of softballs. The storm downed trees and damaged houses. Officials are assessing the damage.
