Comedian and veteran late-night television host David Letterman will retire as star of "The Late Show" on CBS in 2015, when his latest contract expires, he said during the taping of his show in New York on Thursday, the network announced. Letterman, 66, began hosting the show on CBS in August 1993, after leaving the rival NBC network, where he had hosted the "Late Night with David Letterman" show for many years. News of Letterman's plans to retire came nearly two months after Jay Leno bid farewell as host of NBC's "The Tonight Show," a job Leno assumed in 1992 in a highly publicized succession of Johnny Carson that led to Letterman's defection from NBC. R&B singer Chris Brown was taken from his Los Angeles jail cell by the U.S. Marshals Service and will be transported to Washington, D.C., for a hearing on a misdemeanor assault charge, federal authorities said on Thursday (April 03). Brown, 24, was jailed last month after violating his probation and court-ordered treatment related to his 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna. Brown faces a misdemeanor assault charge in Washington from an October 2013 incident where he was accused of allegedly punching a man who was trying to get a picture with him, breaking his nose. Finnish concerts by American pop stars Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake have come under the cloud of United States (U.S.) sanctions against Russia because of the venue's Russian owners, the promoter said on Thursday (April 3). Timberlake has a sold-out concert scheduled in May at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, while Cyrus is due to perform at the arena, in June. The promoter said its lawyers were discussing with U.S. authorities whether the sanctions against the venue's owners would bar planned shows by American artists.
