April 6 - Police used tear gas and flash bang grenades in an attempt to restore order after thousands of partygoers riot at an unsanctioned annual street party in Isla Vista, California. Vanessa Johnston reports.

Rioters in Isla Vista, California, set fire to mattresses, tore down stop signs, and threw bottles at police.
Who responded with tear gas, pepper spray, flash bang grenades, and rubber bullets. Anything they could do to subdue the thousands of partygoers at the annual street party, Deltopia.
Emergency personnel were ordered to leave - due to concerns their safety was at risk.
It all started when a police officer from the University of California, Santa Barbara, was hit in the head with a backpack full of liquor bottles on Saturday evening. Another was hit with a brick.
From there the violence escalated. Order was finally restored by early Sunday morning.
