The long wait is over for hardcore Mustang fans: The 2015 Ford Mustang convertible is on display on the 86th floor observatory of the Empire State Building in New York until Thursday. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MELANIE BANKER, FORD MUSTANG BRAND MANAGER, SAYING: "Mustang's the first car and only car that's been on the Empire State Building observation deck, so it seemed like an opportune time to recreate the stunt that we did in 1965." But it wasn't an easy feat. (SOUNDBITE) (English) GEORGE SAMULSKI, MANAGER OF FABRICATION AT FORD MOTOR CO DESIGN, SAYING: "We had to bring it up to the elevators and the problem that we ran into was that the elevators are very small here. They were built back in the '30s. The dimension of the width of the elevator doors is only 36 inches and it's only 56 inches deep. We actually built an elevator back in Dearborn to simulate the size that we had to cut the car into to get it up to the 86th floor observation deck." The automaker spent hundreds of millions of dollars on a ground-up redesign of the car, getting its first complete overhaul since 2005. The Empire State Building event coincides with the annual New York Auto Show in Manhattan.
