Marijuana fans pack 4/20 event

April 20 - Thousands of marijuana enthusiasts gather for an annual celebration of cannabis culture while a vending machine promises to make marijuana laced goodies more accessible. Mana Rabiee reports.

With recreational marijuana now legal in Colorado, the mile-high-city is cashing in on pot tourism. "I came from Daytona Beach, Florida." Denver's becoming a tourist destination for cannabis enthusiasts from all over. "I am from Dallas, Fort Worth." "Philadelphia" "New York" All that tourism peaks this weekend for the 4/20 rally. The traditional pot holiday on April 20, when thousands descend on the state to celebrate all things marijuana. SOUNDBITE: JOURDAN YELVINGTON, POT ENTHUSIASTS, SAYING: "Its a very big weekend. We are going to be at the I-bake and then the I-bake shuttles you over to the cannabis cup and I really don't know what to expect." SOUNDBITE:KRISTIE LUNSFORD, 4/20 RALLY DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, SAYING: "4/20 weekend is a destination weekend here in Denver." SOUNDBITE: JOURDAN YELVINGTON, POT ENTHUSIASTS, SAYING: "We cant do an early check in today because the hotel said it was packed." Denver police say security for the event is heightened this year. They're reminding festival goers that, even though recreational pot is legal, actually smoking it in public is not. SOUNDBITE: MATT MURRAY, DENVER POLICE DEPT, SAYING: "The police department is certainly not out there trying to find people to write tickets to. These are blatant violations. We just ask people to be reasonable think about this, protect the right that they've got to smoke marijuana and do it legally." With the new marijuana laws, Colorado business are finding innovative new ways to cash in. Delivery men installed the state's first marijuana vending machine at this barbecue restaurant in Avon. The vender says the machine will change his business. SOUNDBITE: GREG HONAN, HERBAL ELEMENTS OWNER, SAYING: "We're gonna eliminate the middle man, the inventory will go straight from the budtender right into our machine. There's no room for theft by patients, employees, there's no way to lose track of the inventory." Police issued 22 citations on Saturday for public consumption of marijuana. Five people were also taken to a detox center where they can receive medical attention.
