Shooting marbles is a serious game here in West Sussex where the 2014 World Marbles Championship is taking place. The aim is to knock 25 marbles out of a ring of 49 - which doesn't only require glass balls, but also special skills, explains one player. SOUNDBITE: Layla Kara, Player, saying (English) "If you really master the back spin you end up playing a lot better and because shooting and getting marbles out is good but you need to stay in the ring." The sport has reportedly been played at this location since 1588, although the world championship first took place in1932. This year's finals were a standoff between two old rivals - the English Handcross 49's versus Germany's 1st McErzgebirge. The Germans knocked out the Brits 30 to 7 and for them victory seems like a matter of national pride.
